Software Development Internship

Employer: Octophin
Contract: Internship – 6 months / February-July
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday
Salary: £14.80 per hour
Location: EC1R 3DA – Office based
Closing date: Tuesday 6th January 12:00 (midday)
Interviews: Stage 1 & 2: w/c 15th January 2026 (video screening, and in person 2nd stage interview)
Start date: February 2026

Octophin is a digital agency focused on the wildlife conservation sector. We make software including interactive maps and databases, games, dashboards and community sites for some of the world's leading conservation organisations.

About the role
This placement will put you straight into some challenging but hugely rewarding projects; but we'll be here to support and train you in some great skills you can take wherever you go next, including programming in various languages (mostly JavaScript, PHP and Python).

It's a six month placement starting in February 2026, fully based in our office in Farringdon.

Duties

What you’ll be doing:
  • Supporting the team on various projects
  • Testing software and websites and providing reports on problems
  • The collection of assets such as images and text for projects
  • Co-creation of data structures and functional specifications for software
  • Basic coding if the intern has a knowledge of some programming languages

There will be many opportunities to learn about software development and code writing throughout the
internship and the focus of the internship will be shaped by the skills the candidate wants to focus on or
already has.

Essential criteria

What we are looking for:
It's not essential that you have prior experience of software development but the best candidates will have the patience to keep trying when things don't work, good communication skills and most of all a desire to learn.

  • Strong digital skills and knowledge of how the internet works
